Things You Should Prepare In A Hurricane Survival Kit

One of the things that most people overlook is a Hurricane Survival Kit. Some of these items should be standard equipment for every family that has the possibility of experiencing a hurricane. 

  • Stock up on plenty of food in anticipation of the hurricane's arrival. Choose those foods that are nonperishable and have a long shelf life. People mostly fail to pack a can opener with their survival kits. It is recommended that you stock up with at least one gallon of water per person per day.   • You must have plenty of clothing with you at all times. These items should include ample changes of clean socks and rainwear as hurricanes come with an enormous amount of rain.

  • In the event of electric service disruption, you should have sufficient batteries for all battery-operated products. You should also maintain several flashlights for each member of the family. Try not to use candles if possible as the risk of fires is much greater. Rescue efforts are greatly hindered during severe weather.

  • Do not forget the value of sleeping items. Pack some personal items in the kit as well,   like hygiene products such as soap and toothbrushes, sanitary supplies, prescription drugs. Place any important papers, cash, and valuables in a waterproof container when packing your survival kit. 

  • Nowadays we have a GPS system that can guide us through directions but always carry the old map charts in case of emergency. Keep a small assortment of tools such as a wrench, a hammer, screwdrivers, a knife, and duct tape. This list is an important start to prepare for hurricanes.
