La Misión de Lalma
La misión de la Asociación de Latinos Musulmanes es enseñar los fundamentos del Islam en el idioma Castellano o Español, proveyendo literatura y promoviendo un mejor entendimiento acerca del Islam entre la población de habla hispana no musulmana. Al mismo tiempo, se provee apoyo spiritual a los nuevos musulmanes durante la etapa de transición del Cristianismo al Islam, compartiendo experiencias, idioma y cultura. El objetivo principal es incorporar este nuevo grupo de musulmanes a la comunidad multi-étnica de musulmanes del Sur de California.
The Los Angeles Latino Muslims Association's
mission is to teach the fundamentals of Islam in the Spanish language by
providing literature and promoting a better understanding about Islam among
the Spanish-speaking non-Muslim Latino population. By providing knowledge
about Islam the main objective is to deter hate crimes directed towards the
Muslim community.
Improve Islamic knowledge to the existing
Latino Muslims through education and collaboration with the multiethnic
Muslim community in Los Angeles. We provide spiritual support to the "New
Latino Muslim" during the transition from Christianity to Islam by sharing
the same culture, experience and language.

LALMA also
gives presentations about Islam as part of its outreach activities.
LALMA has been invited to give presentations about Islam at Catholic
Churches. One presentation was given to twenty-six leaders of different
Catholic Churches. Presentations are always appreciated.
Most Latinos are generally surprised to learn about the presence of
Islam in Spain and about Islam's influence in Mexico and in the United
States.
Every year approximately 100,000 Americans embrace Islam. American
Islamic publishing companies can be commended for the healthy flow of
Islamic literature in the English language. From its creation, LALMA
experienced the need for more Spanish literature. LALMA has recently set
sail on its greatest adventure, the creation of Luz del Islam
Publishing. Luz del Islam Publishing seeks to fill the void experienced
by Latino Dawah organizations around the country by providing low cost,
high quality books to Latino Muslims.

FOCUS

1. Outreach activities to the Hispanic community by giving presentations on Islam to Catholic Churches,
Methodist Churches. Visiting ill Muslims in the hospital or at home, and welcoming Hispanics with Muslim spouses.
2. Transitional support approach by providing individual meetings in order to teach Salat, pronunciation of Arabic, small verses from the Qur'an, and coping with family issues after
returning to Islam.
3. Promotion of Spanish Islamic literature, especially the new Muhammad Asad
based interpretation of the Qur'an in the Spanish
language. LALMA has created "Luz del Islam Publishing" to distribute the
printed edition of the Qur'an and other Islamic publications in the Spanish language.
4. An Introduction to Islam live presentation
is provided to non-Muslim family or friends on
the first four Sundays of each month ...
